Local sights and sounds: For local attractions, try the Westchester County Office of tourism for events and listings. There's also a Mamaroneck village website. Winged Foot is so close to central NY, that you'll also enjoy the city's offerings. Try the try the NY Times city guide or the official city tourist website.
Tournaments before and after: Barclays Classic ... Booz Allen Classic.
Location and event tips: The US Open takes place on the west course. The last time the event was held at Winged Foot (1984), it was won by Fuzzy Zoeller. Let me know if you have any more tips.
