2006 Ryder Cup

Dates: September 22nd to September 24th, 2006.

Ticketing: Ryder Cup tickets are now sold out (confirmed at the official site). You can try your luck with the ticket agencies perhaps.

Road: The K Club is just 17 miles west of Dublin - the Irish capital - and is sandwiched between the N4/M4 and N7 road routes, just west of Straffan. See here for driving instructions.
Rail/bus: There are buses from Dublin city center to nearby Celbridge. Dublin is of course on the national rail network. No doubt there will be Ryder Cup shuttle services from Dublin.
Air: Dublin International handles all the major airlines, and is just 23 miles away. The K Club provides instructions on how to then drive to the Ryder Cup venue. The airport has shuttle buses to railway stations and various parts of Dublin and its surroundings.

Accommodation and facilities: The K Club has its own resort hotel but something tells me you won't find any space there. With Dublin so close, you might consider staying in that fine city. The County Kildare Community Network has hotel and other listings for the area, too.

Local sights and sounds: Straffan is a small village, but surrounding County Kildare is known for the outdoor activities on offer, including the world famous Curragh racecourse. A trip to Dublin is probably in order; the Dublin Tourism site has all the details of Ireland's capital city. And Ireland is not a huge country, so there's no excuse for not taking time to visit some other areas. It's a beautiful country. See the Irish Tourist Board site for suggestions. My recommendation: Galway (where I spent my honeymoon).

Tournaments before and after: 84 Lumber Classic ... American Express Championship.

Location and event tips: The Ryder Cup matches take place on the Arnold Palmer-designed North course. The K Club is also host to the Smurfit European Open. Let me know if you have any other tips.
