Mercedes Championships

Dates: Monday, January 1st to Sunday, January 7th, 2007.

Location: The Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The tournament contact details are: 500 Bay Drive, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii 96761, USA. Tel: 808.669.2440

Ticketing: Mercedes Championships tickets are normally available online, by mail order or at specific outlets. You'll find the details here (2007 update may not be online yet). A weekly pass normally costs around $55 in advance or $80 at the gate. A daily pass for a tournament day typically costs between $15 and $30, depending on the day and whether you buy your ticket in advance.

Road connections: There's a free shuttle service to the course from selected Maui locations. Maui is relatively small, so the tournament is within a few miles of any part of the island, though you'll need to take a coastal road to reach it.  Kapalua is on the NW coast of the island not far from the town of Lahaina. There aren't too any roads to choose from, so you can't get lost.
Air: There is a small local Kapalua Airport, but the main air gateway into Maui is Kahului Airport which is about 33 miles from the tournament area (an hour's drive) along HWY 30.

Accommodation and facilities: The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau has accommodation listings and a directory of tour and travel operators within its search facility. The coastal area near Kapalua is full of big-time hotels. Look for the "Start planning your trip" box on this page. Kapalua Resort has its own hotels and villas, and is near the town of Lahaina.

Local sights and sounds: Maui is a leading global tourist destination, so don't worry about finding things to do when the tournament play is finished. Read this detailed but uncomplicated online travel guide to the island. It will tell you everything about what to see and do (as well as offering tips on places to eat and stay). There's also a more official guide from the tourist authorities. It seems unnecessary to go into detail here, since everyone knows what Hawaii has to offer, but don't miss out on nearby Lahaina, a delightful old whaling port bustling with shops and restaurants

Tournaments before and after: The Mercedes Championships start off the season. Next up is the Sony Open in Honolulu.
