Bob Hope Chrysler Classic
Dates: Monday, January 15th to Sunday, January 21st, 2007
Location: The tournament takes place on five days (beginning Wednesday), with four courses in play each day, bar the final day. On Sunday, only one course is used (in 2006 it was the recently completed Classic Course at NorthStar site). Addresses for the courses are:
PGA West: PGA
Boulevard, La Quinta, CA 92253
Bermuda Dunes: 42360 Adams Street, Bermuda Dunes, CA 92201
La Quinta Country Club: 77750 50th Ave, La Quinta, CA 92253
Classic Club: 75-200 N. Star Resort Parkway, Palm Desert, CA 92211
Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament office: 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, Tel: 760.346.8184, Fax: 760.346.6329
Ticketing: You can buy Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tickets online, via fax, mail order or phone. See the official site for details (may not be updated for the 2007 event yet). A weekly pass in 2006 cost $75, a daily pass $25.
Road connections: All four sites are within a few miles of each other southeast of Palm Springs and reachable via the I10. Bermuda Dunes is about a mile off the
I10 at Myoma. The La Quinta course is four miles south of that, and
slightly east, on the other side of the 111. PGA West is 3-4 miles
southeast of La Quinta. The Classic Course is just off the I10 at the Cook
Street north exit. There are central
tournament parking facilities, with shuttle buses to the various courses.
See here for details.
Air: The local airport is Palm
Springs International, which is no more than 25 driving miles from
any of the courses.
Accommodation and facilities: The official site has some hotel links. You might also browse the accommodation listings and information provided by the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority. Their hotel search facility, for example, lets you limit results to regions near the tournament venues.
Local sights and sounds: There's information on things to do, see and visit at the local tourist bureau site, which has its own golf page. The Deserts region of California is full of golf resorts, spas, and wildlife and botanical parks. Consider a trip to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Indian Wells or the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway that climbs Mt. San Jacinto.
Tournaments before and after: Sony Open ... Buick Invitational
Location and event tips: Celebrities appearing at the 2006 tournament included Marcus Allen, Justin Timberlake, Yogi Berra, Joe Pesci, Michael Bolton, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Alice Cooper and Carson Daly. Let me know if you have any other tips.
