American Express Championship

Dates: Monday, September 25th to Sunday, October 1st, 2006

Location: The Grove, Chandler's Cross, Hertfordshire, WD3 4TG, UK.

Ticketing: You can get your American Express Championship tickets online - ordering details are given at the official site. A weekly pass sets you back £130, while daily tickets are £15 for practice days, £30 on the Thursday or Friday, and £35 on the final two days of the event. There's a discount if you whip out your amex card to pay.

Road and rail connections: The tournament takes place just northwest of London, just inside the M25 road that encircles the city (look for junctions 19 or 20). The Grove's website has directions on how to reach the area by car, train, boat and air. The hotel and course is just a few minutes transfer time away from Watford, which has a station on the London Underground's Metropolitan line.
Air: With its proximity to London, the tournament is easily accessible from any one of four major airports, including Heathrow (22 miles anti-clockwise along the M25), Gatwick (ditto, but 58 miles away), Luton (18 miles to the north) and Stansted (47 miles to the east).

Accommodation and facilities: For Hertfordshire, try the accommodation listings at this local guide. Needless to say, nearby London has a few hotel rooms available too. Try this official tourism site for a directory of places to stay, with reviews and an online booking service.

Local sights and sounds: Hertfordshire.com has a huge guide to the local area for visitors. If you want to enjoy some of the more historical attractions, consider a visit to nearby Knebworth House, Woburn Abbey or Hatfield House. Not forgetting one or two things you might do in London, too.

Tournaments before and after: Valero Texas Open / Ryder Cup ... Chrysler Classic of Greensboro
