COMMENTS FROM 2005:

John Bond - Daytona Beach writes:
"Come on people. Jan did not say anything racist. It just so happens that Asian women are the largest contingent (of any type) that does not "participate" in all aspects of the game. In order to foster a relationship with the public and their sponsors, players (men and women) need to be accessible or be so good as to create a legendary status.

Tiger is one of those legends. There is no doubt that he is a rare specimen and immediately became the best player in the world and stayed there for a very long time. Therefore, he is well known and brings the masses to the tournaments and television.

The women want larger purses but a great many of them are not willing to do their part in increasing public awareness and generating goodwill toward the Tour's sponsors. Unless the LPGA brings a phenomenon near the caliber of Tiger into the fold, it will need all of the ladies to get involved."

Benny from Memphis says:
"Jan has gone through so much in her life. No one takes all that into consideration.

I can understand her comments on the Asian golfers. It makes it doubly hard for someone to make a comeback with all those great new golfers getting on the tour. She was a champion when these girls were a twinkle in their daddys eyes!!!

Walk a mile in her shoes before you go blasting someone for a comment.....I think she is a great golfer and ONE BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!! I mean she is sexier than anyone out there!!"

COMMENTS FROM 2003:

I got several comments about her opinions on Asian golfers and the LPGA. Here are some highlights:

Holly Helmstetter from Upstate NY:
"There is nothing Jan Stephenson can say or do that will make up for her appalling comments...all of my respect for her is gone."

A Chinese American Women Golfer from San Francisco:
"As a Chinese American women golfer, I am upset to read about Jan Stephenson's interview about Asians killing the tour. I feel that her comments are only hurting the LPGA by saying these discriminating comments to the press. I don't thing she understands that her comments greatly affect the emotions of many Asian golfers. I'm sure that Tiger Woods would be offended as he is part Asian. I do not think that her apology was enough. She can't take back the hurt feelings. Thank you for listening to my comments."
