Recent comments on Annika Sorenstam

Roy from Michigan writes:
"When I saw the playoff between Annika and Pat Hurst on the 18th hole. Annika waited for Pat to join her so they both could walk onto the 18th, what a class act." (Dec 22, 2006)

A visitor says:
"I thought I saw somewhere that Annika did not want people "checking out her legs." Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, then she should just where pants."

COMMENTS FROM 2005:

Steve A. from Pennsauken, NJ writes:
"Annika you are the best female golfer in the world. Stay focused on yourself and your goals and all the hype about M. Wie will go away as you will continue to dominate this sport for many years to come. Keep up the hard work as You are the reason many individuals watch and follow the LPGA."

Sara in Ohio says:
"I love your name.  One day when I was pregnant with my third child, I heard your name on the TV.  Now I have my own Annika at home."

Sunbum from Texas writes:
"Annika Sorenstam the "GREATEST GOLFER AND LADY, EVER" I'm honored to live in your era!!!!!"

Steve from Vermont says:
"You've raised the stakes in golf to a new plateau, outstanding. I personally can't think of another golfer I would rather have for a role model....and oh yea, psssssst, are ya married? ahem, ahem. ( kidding )"

Eddiem writes:
"Martin from The U.K. said that Annika has the loveliest legs on the LPGA circuit. It didn't occur to me until now, but I think he's right. She does have very shapely calves."

COMMENTS FROM 2004:

Nancy B. Harris from Long Beach, MS says:
"I would just like to extend warm congratulations to Annika for another remarkable season in 2004 !! My wishes for Annika in 2005: I wish her continued blessings of good health, quality time spent with her husband, family & friends, and continued success in her game of golf !! Go for the four majors in one year, sole possesion of third place in wins on LPGA TOUR, & eighth Player of Year Award !! Go Annika !!!"

A visitor writes:
"Hey Annika, howzit going? You are my favourite female idol. I especially like the way you like to compete in the tournaments going up against the guys. I am on a high handicap at the moment - a 16 - but I hope to be like you."

Paul from Georgia says:
"Annika is the sole reason I watch the LPGA tour. In my opinion (and Johnny Miller's as well), she is the best ball striker on the planet -- male or female. She's also drop-dead gorgeous."

Ed Speer...Iowa writes:
"Tell Annika she comes out of shot too soon...stay down to count of 1001 and she will win most of time...average score will go down to 68."

A visitor asks:
"Which tournaments has she won this year -- 2004?"
Editor's note: At the time of writing (June) she'd won three on the LPGA Tour: the Safeway International, the Office Depot and the Corning Classic. She also won the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia.

Neil from Oceanside, CA says:
"Congratulations for winning your 50th. Also thank you for what you have done for sports. Not just golf or womens sports, but you add class to the sport much like Nancy Lopez and Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus to golf and Chris Evert to tennis did. You are a true competitor with dignity."

COMMENTS FROM 2003:

Nancy B. Harris from Long Beach, MS adds to her previous message:
"WOW !!! This has certainly been the year of Annika !!! Congratulations are extended to her on ALL of her wonderful accomplishments this past year : THE COLONIAL !!! TWO MAJORS/CAREER GRAND SLAM !!! SOLHEIM CUP !!! DEFENDING, &"THREE/PEATING" !!! THE HALL OF FAME !!! WOW !!! Best wishes for a GREAT 2004 !!! My husband & I wish Annika & her husband a blessed Holiday Season !!!"

Katie says:
"Just to say I love the way you play golf and you inspire me in the way you play. I am 13 and enjoy golf to the max and with your helping swing, Annika I am now off 13 so thank you so much and play well in your next competition."

Nancy B. Harris from Long Beach, Mississippi writes:
"WOW!!! What a performance by Annika Sorenstam at the recent Solheim Cup event in Sweden. I again am most impressed with her passion, and absolute love of her game/profession. She brought out the best in her playing partners, and seemed to enjoy every moment with her "Home-Fans" cheering in total support and joy. Congrats to the European Team on a great victory. Hooray for Annika Sorenstam. She deserves to be Sports Person of The Year!!!"

E.L. from Virginia says:
"I've always enjoyed watching Annika play golf particularly since her win at Pine Needles in 1996. Her appearance at Colonial this year was so refreshing because a number of the PGA Tour players seem too "robotic" and have little or no interaction with the fans. She is the ultimate professional in every sense of the word and the fans got to see an emotional side of her at Colonial. I can't wait to see her native country of Sweden cheer her on in the upcoming Solheim Cup and also see her achieve the ulimate goal of induction into the World Golf Hall Of Fame in October! Much deserved! Please continue to showcase your golf talents for many more years because the game needs you."

Gail from New York writes:
"I like the Swedish temperement. Annika reminds me of Bjorn Borg because she always looks in control of her emotions, she has an extemely pleasant demeanour about her. She looks as though she enjoys her golf and looks confident without ever looking cocky or arrogant. She has every reason to be big headed but she isn't, she sometimes even looks almost slightly embarrassed when she hits a good shot. That down to earth slightly shy swedish persona is a very endearing quality."

Nancy B. Harris from Long Beach, Missippi adds:
"I think Annika Sorenstam is an inspiration, and a wonderful role model. I am most impressed with her passion for her profession !! She shows dignity, & absolute pleasure at what she is doing !! Hooray for her !! She & her husband are most welcome to visit my class of third graders at any time !!! Annika Sorenstam is a JOY !!!"

James from England writes:
"YEAH ANNIKA, 2 shots off the lead with a round to go - I'm really really wanting you to win the Weetabix Women's British Open. I think every golfer on the planet likes Annika Sorenstam, especially male golfers. She must be one of the sexiest woman in sport."

James adds later..."Congratulations Annika Sorenstam British Open champion 2003 and now winner of every major, playing golf that was a joy to watch as usual. The drive at the last hole was fantastic!"

Brandy says:
"You're a very special person to me. I'm greatly happy to have an inspiration as great as you - thanks."

Christina from Ohio writes:
"YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Annika I'm your biggest fan.You are the greatest female golfer who ever lived. I really look up to you because I'm a young golfer too. I was at the Giant Eagle Classic in Youngstown, Ohio. You played great and your swing is amazing. The only reason I went was to see you play, which was probably the case with many other people there. So my father and I followed you the whole day. I'll always be your biggest fan so keep doing your thing!!!!!!!!!!!"

Steve W. from Lancaster, MO says:
"Annika was already one of my favorite golfers before Colonial. Now everyone seems to know how great she is. Now women's golf has someone with a superior combination of style and ability - like Nicklaus, Watson, Trevino and Woods.

If I were on the PGA tour, I would want Annika to play on the tour all of the time. Forget Vijay Singh and Nick Price. I do not excuse their comments because they were raised in societies that do not respect women. With her obvious style, personality and golfing ability, what kind of bigoted idiot would not respect Annika?"

James from Scotland writes:
"Vijay Singh should keep his comments to himself...Annika is worth 10 of him."

Khalid Malik says:
"I like your game. You are my favorite golfer. I watch your game daily. I am a 16 year old boy from pakistan. My family also likes your game. My mother is your fan."

A visitor writes:
"I am very impressed with Annika. She is the number one person I look up to. I am 12 years old and am taking lessons from family and other teachers. Even though she didn't make the cut for the Men's Tournament, I think she did a great job! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!"

Anna from Montana says:
"I have never watched golf before but I decided to watch Annika. She seemed to keep her cool and played well with such a large gallery watching her. I would hope she would try again on the men's tour. It makes things more interesting. Whichever way she goes I wish her GOOD LUCK and will continue to watch her when I can. Congratulations Annika."

John and Ann Mongelli, Florida, write:
"Congratulations, Annika for your courage and inspiration. We, at 72 and 80 years old, are priviliged to watch you. Many more successes in a long career."

Donna from Illinois says:
"Way to go! We are proud of you for being part of the Colonial. The world was cheering for you. Sorry that you missed the cut but what a proformance!"

Bill Chisholm from Pickerington, Ohio writes:
"Annika should not quit the PGA. This was a first. Annika is the favorite golfer of my wife and myself. We escorted her around New Albany in Columbus. She had jitters and beat a dozen men. She can do better."

Gene Gaynor, Los Angeles, CA says:
"Thank you Annika for making golf exciting to watch. Without Tiger or Annika playing I will just change the channel. Vijay Singh could use a little instruction on humility. To Dean Wilson and Aaron Barber, you have just gained fans who will follow the rest of your career."

Gloria from Shreveport, LA writes:
"Way to go! Try again next year, I'm sure you'll make the cut then. Are your clubs longer than the mens'? Your swing is beautiful!"

A visitor says:
"Great job and great effort. I hope to see you try again. I've enjoyed watching the last couple of days and I feel you've breathed some fresh life into the PGA. Once again well done."

Virginia T. Fairfield of Australia writes:
"What Annika is proving is that a talented, hard working , golf sports star has no boundaries as to what can be achieved in the field of pro golf , which is traditionally reserved to males. She is a role model to everyone who wants to excel in whatever field they choose."

Sandy D from Richfield says:
"I have never golfed. It's never been a favorite sport to watch. But yesterday when I watched the news and saw Annika show the good old boys of the PGA her stuff, I was so proud!"

Mike from New Mexico writes:
"GO! GO! GO! Don't let up whip their butts! 500 to 1...it can be done! GOOD LUCK!"

Jeffrey Gregory from North Carolina says:
"I think that Annika has every right to be where she is. I am a man, do I have the right to play in that tourney? Well if I do then so does she 'cause I know she could kick my butt. I think that the reason so many of the men are upset by her being there is because she will beat most of them. They need to develop a better training program if they want to be competitive, not knock around the people who are doing well for their effort...As for Annika I hope you teach those whining boys a lesson or two on what the sport of Golf is really about....."Sportsmanship".

As for the rest of you that don't support her, shame on you. You make all of us men look bad when you continually open your mouth and put your foot in it. Try shutting it more and playing harder."

Todd L from Houston writes:
"I don't totally agree with Annika playing on the mens tour, but I think she is great and I hope she kicks some scared little mens' butt. Yes, I am a man and would like to see a tournament with men vs. women. I hope she shuts a lot of people up today and just has some fun."

Amelia from New Jersey says:
"Dear Annika, to me you are already the "winner" no matter how the game will end.
You are a great example, thank you!!!"

Pete S. from Australia writes:
"Go Annika. May this be the great equaliser."

Tony in England says:
"I wish Annika good luck and lets stop discrimination, rascism and all isms"

Cassy from Australia writes:
"GO GIRL!!!! What a champion you are Annika! Here's hoping that you'll give the men a run for their money. I pray that you will do well at Colonial. You serve to inspire women across the globe with your pioneering effort of being the first woman to go up against the men.

(Editor's note: Babe Zaharias was the first to go up against the men, back in 1945)"

Gene from Aberdeen says:
"I am very dismayed about all the negative press concerning Annika in the Colonial. I like good golf. I like to watch good golf. She is a good golfer. I hope she golfs well in the Colonial and I'm curious as to how she'll fare. PERIOD. I am embarrassed at all the emotional negativity so, if I have to root for her so as to balance the scales (even just a little bit), then you've talked me into it. Just back off and let her play golf. Her ego? Take a look around. An ego is pretty much required for anyone (male or female) to want to excel in an individual (non-team) sport."

Mandy Noble writes:
"You're special to me because you have the courage to play golf with men."

BB in Chicago says:
"Based on the pressure and the news...so far I'm hoping Annika is a player with a laser focus. I hope she does so well that it ends the male-female player debate. I'm affirming her success."

Ron Rosales of Long Beach, California writes:
"I've been shanking the ball for ten years now but I love to watch my sweetie pie Annika play on the LPGA. Annika I back you 100%

I have been a fan from the first time I saw you on TV, before you won your first major. I suppose I had a crush on you besides admiring your golf game.

Well, go out and play Colonial your way. Let the guys do their thing. You play your game and however it turns out will be fine with me."

Craig F. from California says:
"You go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A visitor writes:
"Annika is showing the lady she is by her demeanor. I would love her to play well at the Colonial and teach them male chauvanists some life's important lesson."

Jane in the UK says:
"I really hope that Annika plays her usual excellent golf and that in the process, challenges herself and learns more about achieving even greater things. It seems as though some of the men on the tour don't have her level of self confidence in putting themselves in a difficult situation in the public eye. Enjoy your press, Annika, you deserve it."

Charles from Florida writes:
"Dear Annika,
Your name is nearly as beautiful as you are - only surpassed by your indomitable skill. When an opponent displays fear, they are already 50 - 75% defeated. The pathetic comments from these so called "men" is as much a display of their utter lack of class as it is their enormous fear of what you might and indeed WILL DO. You ARE our champion and our respect for you is only surpassed by our love for you. NO distractions - utter focus - and WIN as only you can do."

A visitor says:
"I would certainly be interested in Annika's performance at the Colonial. As for that other guy, Vijay Singh, I think it would be most prudent for him to just concentrate on his own game. His disparaging comments against Annika was uncalled for..."

Danny G. from Arizona writes:
"I have no problem with Annika playing with the men. The only way to get the respect from the men golfers is to be a Monday qualifier and that way all doubts will be settled, and she would
earn the spot without bumping someone."

Lou V. from Ayer, MA says:
"I would love to see Annika perform to her very best and do extremely well in the Colonial. It's too bad when we have golfers like Singh making stupid comments about her."

A male golfer from Iowa writes:
"Not only is Annika fiercely competitive and THE model of consistency, she has an excellent golf swing. Add to the above that she is absolutely beautiful, with a sweet voice and personality, and in such excellent physical shape, and there is no doubt as to why men and women alike love to watch her play. She is my favorite woman golfer of all time."

Stefan from Falun in Sweden says:
"I believe Vijay Singh is afraid of meeting Annika Sorenstam in The Colonial. It's not good sportmanship to criticise her. I really hope that she gets a good result in The Colonial...Sorenstam is the world's greatest player."

Andrew from the UK writes:
"I really admire Annika's game and I find it very surprising that her fellow Swede Jesper Parnevik can be so uncomplimentative of her. He said that if she played on the men's tour regularly she wouldn't make a cut all year. How can anybody think that someone who once shot a round of 59 would do as poorly as Parnevik is suggesting? The 59 was achieved on a short course but a 6459 yard course is surely no more than about 3 or 4 shots easier than a 7000 yard course. I think she could do well at the Colonial but even if she doesn't, I'll still think she's awesome. There are very few people in this world who could shoot a 59 on any length course, man or woman."

Ron from Fort Worth says:
"With the recent news articles and tv talk about Annika I would like to sat this. 1. I am a male, 2. I'm glad she accepted the invitation to the Colonial, and 3. Just like the comments made by a female on the new survivor series, "let's kick some butt". I think Phil from the PGA said it best "I just hope if she's 20th, that I am 19th or better."

Annette H. from Texas writes:
"Annika is #1 of course. I'm in the process of getting tickets to see her play at Colonial. I'm tired of people saying it could be bad for womens golf. It's great for womens golf and it will be great for Annika. I saw where Tiger usually doesn't play in this tournament. I only hope Tiger and other top players are man enought to play against her and pull for her. She is great for the sport of golf. Go ANNIKA, I hope I'm there to see you win. I hope Phil Mikelson is there too."

CeeJay says:
"Would love to see her play the BC Open (PGA) this year. I'm sure she'd find the EnJoie course to her liking (my 16 y/o son shot 4 over from the blues), with an excellent chance at winning since the 'big hitters' do not attend this one."

Martin from the UK writes:
"She has the loveliest legs on the LPGA"

Sam Arnold from MN says:
"I saw Annika play three tournaments last year and a number of times before. I certainly admire her game, but even more so she is a very nice person. She is always friendly to everyone.

I love the LPGA. The men have games to admire, but the ladies have games to which we can aspire. Even though we will never quite get there."

Richard from Dudlin writes:
"Simply Gorgeous, and a great golfer."
