"Greg, I read your comments about the "down turn" of the PGA Golf Tour because of technology and Tiger Woods. I think you are incorrect in your assessment of Tiger Woods' impact on the PGA Tour. I have witnessed many "spirited" performances by golfers on the tour in their endeavors to beat Tiger, the problem is that he is so dominating and so focused. I feel to the contrary, that Tiger has done a lot of good for golf because his talent is undeniable and he simply excels in the sport. How would you have assesed yourself if you had dominated golf in your prime as Tiger does now? Would you conclude that Greg Norman is bad for the sport? I honestly doubt it. " (Oct 11, 2006)
COMMENTS FROM 2005:
Pat Wolff says:
"I think Greg is going to go down in history as the greatest golfer never to win the Masters. I am a big fan of his, and would like to see him back on tour some day. Maybe some day he might win it. I'm hoping he does so he will get that monkey off his back. But I like him because he won't walk away
- he will stay and give an interview even if he had a bad round, like some other golfers do after they had a bad round.
That's all I have to say. Thank you for letting me air my views..."

"I think the Australian golf community owes a lot to Mr. Norman. I think it was he who stimulated the golfing consciousness of our nation with its collective rising in the early am watching as he blocked a
4 iron in the Masters, the play-off with Fuzzy, the flukey chip in by
Mize, the stabbing by Faldo. I was at the Australian G.C when he holed out from 250 yards; he'd just 3 putted the previous green and was "steaming" as he walked to the elevated next tee
- a par 5 of some distance, alongside, I think Brett Ogle and another aussie golfer
whose name I just don't recall (possibly Mike Harwood but don't quote me on
any). All I can truly remember is "the Shark" smashing a huge drive past the traps and hearing the roar of the gallery as he smashed another shot into the cup from a phenomonal yardage. Go shark"
A. Cantu from Corpus
Christi, Texas says:
"The year of the Shark as some will remember was when I started playing golf. Since then I've never seen or enjoyed watching another golfer as I did Greg. I was fortunate to see him play in person and I must say it was awesome to watch him. To this day whenever there is a tournament I look in the paper to see if he's playing. To me he's the greatest golfer ever."
Susan in Dallas
writes:
"He was the #1 golfer in world for 10+ years. There should be no negative statements. Next year he will be competing on the senior tour and will dominate it.
Can't wait for him to be back in action! CLASS ACT!"
No. 1 Aussie Fan
says:
"The game of golf is not the same without Greg Norman playing regularly on tour. No other player attacks the fairway and throws caution to the wind as Greg Norman did. Come on guys, have a go like Greg did. Come back Shark!"
Mark from Dublin, Ireland
writes:
"In my view, the most talented golfer there has ever been. Loved by the crowds no matter where he plays and no wonder. Talent, charisma and a great sport, there will only ever be one shark!"
James M. from Lemont,
IL says:
"We share the same dob 2/10/55 so he has always been my favorite. I have felt his
triumphs and defeats."
Willie from Australia
writes:
"Greg Norman is what the game of golf is all about. Professionalism, charisma and businesslike personality. Too many 'goody two shoes' on the tour. SHARK ATTACK!!!!"
A Norman fan asks:
"Norman was contending in China until the illegal drop problem. My question is where was his caddy Tony Navarro? You'd think Navarro would know the rules, and have
noticed this right away."
Cal from OK
says:
"I understand Greg still fights injuries, and that's why he doesn't compete as much. But since Arnie's retired, Payne is no longer with us, only really leaves Greg as the Class Act. I wish some of these top players of today would take note,
and present themselves in the fashion of GREG NORMAN. Hopefully, he will heal enough to get back into contention. Especially in the Majors."
Katherine Mihaka from Australia writes:
"Oh...my...God...! What an absolute spunk, he's not just any ol' spunk... he's a hunk-of-spunk....and an excellent golfer too!"
P Wolff from Arkansas says:
"I just miss him on the course. He is my favorite golfer among today's golfers. I hope I'm not right but if he doesn't get back on the tour, in my opinion he'll go down as one of the greatest players never to win the Masters. I hope that doesn't happen."
COMMENTS FROM 2003:
John Hughes from South Wales writes:
"With any luck Greg could have won more Majors than Tiger and would now be looked upon as the modern player to compete with Nicklaus. I still believe he has ability to win but am disappointed that he does not compete more often. I still hope he will win the Masters!"
Deb Harrity from Chicago says:
"For a girl who was raised on Chicago Football and Baseball in the
80s, Greg brought me the game of golf! His skill, style and love for the game is unsurpassed!!! Only if all could play the game as he, we would all be golfers!"
COMMENTS FROM 2002:
Peter Chambers, from Dublin, Ireland writes:
"Greg Norman is one of the best golfer's I've ever seen. He strikes the
ball; it is hard to see the ball go, because it is going so fast. Greg Norman's golf is amazing. I wish I had that talent."
Andy from the UK says:
"I've always admired Greg's golf and the way he conducts himself on the course. He is such a nice guy. I have never even once seen Greg slam a club into the ground in temper or begrudge his
opponents' victories. Remember the way he embraced Nick Faldo at the end of the 1996 Masters despite losing to him in devastating fashion. What a nice gesture."
Ed C. from MD writes:
"He's the classiest, most charismatic golfer in the game. He'll always be my favorite."
Kate K. from Scotland says:
"He has everything - charm, looks, charisma and to top it all he is a great player even though he is not among the "youngest" any more. I think he still has it in him to win another major, no matter what the critics say!"
Greg Norman (yep, you read it right, but not THE Greg Norman) explains his admiration so...
"He was a legendary golf player and he has the same first name and surname as me..."
