Recent comments on Davis Love III

Brian from LI writes on March 25, after the second round of THE PLAYERS Championship:
"You had a rough day yesterday, Mr. Love, but someday it will just be a story to tell Davis Love V, and you'll both get a laugh from it. Putt on!"

COMMENTS FROM 2005:

Kraig in Minnesota says:
"Poise, charisma, sportsmen, calm demeanor, beautiful swing, long, class, gentleman. Davis you're the best."

A visitor writes:
"Good luck cus from someone who has used the name Love longer than you. After years of having seen people (most have no birthrite to the name) misuse the Love name it is a relief to share the name with a gentleman. GOOD LUCK at the Masters."

Al from Rogue River says:
"Saw Davis on a fishing trip on the Rogue River in Oregon in Feb. 2005. What a gentleman and great golfer. Saw him at Herbs for breakfast on Feb 2. Quiet unassuming gent. Wish there were more like him."

Goob from Lawrenceburg writes:
"Where is he? I thought he had some moxy. Vijay, Tiger, Phil, and Ernie are now the big four & Love isn't even entering any tourneys."

COMMENTS FROM 2004:

Fraser from Cheltenham, UK says:
"I know this is a bit late but the biggest travesty this year was when Tiger beat Davis in the World Matchplay. Davis played fairway golf, most GIR while Woods was in them ( the woods ) for virtually the whole round and somehow won. Surely if you're in the rough it should be more difficult to win (tougher rough needed). I am sure this defeat affected Davis more than we know this season! Best of luck for next year Davis. Will watch you from England as much as I can. A TRUE GENT!!!!!"

Just Plain Bob from Long Island writes:
"I was so pleased to see Davis at the US Open practice rounds with his son walking next to him. He's a fine golfer and on the week when father's day falls on Sunday obviously a fine father. He obviously learned more from his dad than golf."

Bob in Baltimore says:
"Great golfer. Should pass the majors."

A visitor writes:
"I've been a fan of Davis's for years.

I have really enjoyed watching Davis play. His swing and ability is really fun to watch. His dedication to the game and professionalism is more than a cut above.

I wish him sucess in the future. Keep a positive attitude, stay healthy and show the skeptics you are greater than the 'greatest'."

Kat N. from Florida says:
"I think what makes Davis so special is that he doesn't ever get mad when he gets "bothered" in public or around the golf course. For example, I live where THE PLAYERS Championship is held, so I see a lot of golfers. I saw Davis Love and his son in Starbucks and asked for his autograph and he really didn't mind. And, we also had a great conversation. Now, really, do you think that Tiger Woods would sit down and have coffee with you? No. He'd be off with Elin within 5 minutes! I think that Davis is more of a 'people person' than Tiger is. I was in line to get Tiger's autograph, but no, he goes up the steps instead of walking down and giving autographs!

Just an interesting fact I found on another website...Really, it's not Davis Love, it's Davis Lowe, but his dad changed it to Love when he went pro, so Davis just kept that...isn't that odd??"

Quite a few comments came in after his tangle with a heckler at the Match Play Championship. A selection below - unfortunately most of the anti-Love comments used the kind of personal abuse that I won't reprint.

King Ward, Ft. Lauderdale, FL writes:
"I thoroughly agree with Davis regarding the idiot heckler at the Accenture Championship. The officials must be more diligent in controlling these disrespectful and inconsiderate
morons by ejecting them IMMEDIATELY and setting the example for all and future
events."

Firstrounder, San Diego says:
"Davis Love was probably right about the heckler being rude. However it was up to course officials to make that determination. If his concentration is that easily cracked and blood so easily boiled then his focus was not 100%. Fans have only gotten worse in recent years. If you focus on a hazard, you'll hit it every time. The heckler won!"

Mick writes:
"The golf world better get used to it and if they want the fan at the event they are going to see more of the heckler type. After movies like Happy Gilmore, people are thinking this is acceptable or cool. I don't agree with the behavior, but please Davis made 700,000 for losing to Tiger, while this poor slob goes back to looserville. Why come down to his level? Show a little class and tell the guy 'hey listen, I appreciate your loyalty to Tiger but that is not the way you go about it.' Then you become a teacher to the ignorant student who doesn't know any better. This has gotten the fan attention and Davis got his way and the fan ejected, but the backlash will be more fanatics trying to get thrown out of an event so they can get 10 minutes a fame, just like this one. Mark my words, the media types love this and the average person does too."

Rod S. from Quad Cities says:
"Mr. Love, I totally agree with your comments torwards the heckler at the Accenture Match Play Championships. I think a large part of our society has lost respect for what other people do. We don't live by the Golden Rule any more. Which is sad! I for one respect what all you players do and I am pulling for you in the Masters!"

Dave writes:
"Davis Love III to me is a throwback to when gentlemen played and watched golf. He brings up great points in his interview after the Accenture Championship.

There is a certain element of people who attend events, who because they can afford the ticket or more accurately get a complimentary ticket, feel they can act any whay they want to. I've been to several PGA events and pro-ams. This element feels mistakenly entitled.

Message: You are NOT entitled to be an A** on the golf course. These work hard to give the public what we want to see. I can see a**holes anytime; just watch the fans at a soccer match or pro football game.

I can even see them driving home form work.

So, Davis, I appreciate your comments and agree that the "fan" had to be removed. Keep sticking up for the game and the etiquette that makes it unique."

Art H writes:
"I think it's a load of crap what some 'so called fans' will do to show their support (and disrespect) at tournaments. I'm refering to the creep that was heckling DLIII. at the Accenture Match Play. What was he thinking? Or was he? My apologies to all Pro's out there. Please remember, there are still a lot of us who respect the game at it's purest."

Bruce A. from Connecticut writes:
"What a wonderful gentlemen. Davis has been an icon in the PGA Tours and has great fan appeal. Thanks Davis and look forward to seeing you play."

COMMENTS FROM 2003:

Celine from the U.K. says:
"This man is on his way to heaven, hopefully with a few claret jugs in his truck. I never lie."

Mike Longyear writes:
"Davis Love is one of the true champions of the game, He has integrity, class and family values, and is exceptionally talented. He is what the game of golf is all about. Here's to when you win all the Majors and nice guys finish first."

COMMENTS FROM 2002:

Hubert from Chicago, Illinois says:
"No questions asked he is the most talented player on tour. He is also a class act and one for everyone to follow."

A visitor writes:
"He's one of the true gentlemen in the game. He has as much talent as anyone out there."
