Recent comments on Ben Hogan

Danny Radarsays:
"Ben Hogan is the MAN. He proves that hard work and dedication makes it happen. PEACE."

DCF from Ohio writes:
"When my time has come, I'd LOVE to play a round of golf with The Hawk. That would be so freakin' cool."

COMMENTS FROM 2005:

John Courage from Middleburg Heights says:
"The Hawk is a phenomenal link to golf's past who should NEVER be taken for granted."

RADAR from Ohio writes:
"There are no shortcuts in the quest for perfection: wise words from a TRULY LEGENDARY man."

Ben Hogan's #1 Fan says:
"As The Hawk says, first you outwork them, then you outthink them, and then you intimidate them.  A VERY EPIC QUOTE FROM A ONE-OF-A-KIND GOLFER."

A Golf Fan from Ohio writes:
"How can you not respect and appreciate The Hawk for what he did?"

RADAR DAN from Ohio says:
"The Hawk is truly a LEGEND in the game of golf. His legacy is admired, respected, and appreciated by all.

Ben Hogan, here on earth (1912-1997)
His Legacy (1912-4EVER)"

COMMENTS FROM 2004:

PCF from Ohio writes:
"To use the phrase in the Gatorade commercial towards Michael Jordan...."LIKE BEN, IF I COULD BE LIKE BEN.""

Dan F. from Medina, Ohio says:
"What can I say? The man personifies the word LEGEND."

Terence Dowling, Wales UK writes:
"Ben Hogan, a legend. I stood on the par five hole at Carnoustie Golf links where Ben won his only British Open, which is now called Hogans Alley. To see where he put the ball in all five rounds is unbelievable. He only had to play the Open once to make the point he can play links golf. Mr Woods HOW DID YOU DO AT CARNOUSTIE? Case rested."

Ron Stonestreet, Raleigh NC says:
"Ben Hogan should have been golfer of the century, not Jack Nicklaus. Hogan missed a bunch of Majors because of the war and his automobile accident."

Hank Allers from Texas writes:
"My up and close with Mr. Hogan was following him during a round at Augusta National during the 1959 Masters. I remember every shot of that round including his hitting 18 greens that day.

My other up and closer contact was on the practice range at Champions Golf Club in Houston, TX during a practice session between rounds of the 1969 U.S. Open. I watched in awe as his shagger had to dodge 4 wood shots going through an opening in the trees from the practice range to the 18th fairway. I rest my case."

Hennie Bogan (ed: nice!) from Fort Worth, Tx says:
"I have no doubt that Ben Hogan would have grinded Tiger Woods down had they played against each other. One missed green or blown tee shot by Tiger and it would have been advantage Hogan. Hogan simply never missed. Also consider Hogan's clubhead speed was projected to be 132 mph using the eqipment of his time. Tiger swings at 142 mph using today's equipment with no guarantee of where he is going with it. Mental toughness? Hogan watched his father kill himself with a gun to head. Had to caddy at the age of 10 to support the family. Not a pampered "prima donna" childhood. He would have paid no attention to Tiger at all on the course except the occasional "you're away." Hogan never needed heroic shots we see today on the Golf Channel. Read the history books Tiger fans, the best ever was the 'Hawk'."

J. Hawthorne from New York writes:
"What can one say about Ben Hogan that hasn't been already said? Anyway, for me he took on what life dealt him and never gave up. In today's world where playing a sport seems to be all about money, is time and time again shown. Also, how many times have you seen where a player gets a hang-nail, and is put on the disabled list for a couple weeks. So, you see for me, Ben was a role model - re: Never give up, Never compromise the game or yourself, which in turn won't compromise your integrity."

COMMENTS FROM 2003:

Jimmy Etheridge from Atlanta says:
"Mr. Hogan's influence on the game is without peer. I study his lessons and strive to emulate not only his swing, but also his approach to the game."

CFH from VT writes:
"Hogan's ballstriking approached perfection like no other. He played the game like a machine, fairways and greens, and no golfer has ever done it like Hogan since."

COMMENTS FROM 2002:

Ted Cade Sr. from Calgary, Canada says:
"Ben Hogan will allways stand out as the best shot maker the game ever produced.
The reason is simple...Mr. Hogan knew where the ball was going...99 % of the time. Hogan had the ability to put the ball exactly "on the spot" so to speak.

If the drive had to be left center, it went left center...today's pros, with their super clubs, lush courses, souped-up golf balls, etc. do not know their craft !! How many times have you seen today when a pro takes a 3-wood [ metal ] to play safe, and then bangs the ball into trouble...Mr.Hogan would cream them all, including young Woods. Jack Nicklaus would give him a battle, but Hogan would wear him down. I know....I saw him in his prime !!"

Paul Kerin, Tea Tree Gully Golf Club, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia writes:
"Even though today Ben Hogan is no longer alive he is still ahead of his time as noone has come close enough to match his ball striking abilities.

I have studied his swing for the past seventeen years and would like to say that he did not tell us everything, because he wanted us to find out the hard way just like he did by practicing and experimenting. His book five lessons is right in every way in explaining how the golf swing works but to find out what he meant you have to read between the lines and pick up on the little comments he makes throughout the book. The answers are there.

The only way we will ever totally understand his golf swing will be from one person, and that person will be someone just like Ben Hogan, someone who put just as much effort into finding the perfect golf swing as he did. Believe me, I know, it's just a matter of time. There will be another Ben Hogan and his secrets will be revealed so his legacy can live on. He was the master but yet we are unable to find his apprentice as he is still out there practicing and searching, learning everyday just like his master. So all I would like to say is - Thank you Ben for your gift, I will get there one day so I can join you on your pedestal up there way above everyone else."

Matt from Oregon tells us:
"Thank you for providing this space to speak to the greatness of this man. Ben Hogan was a true hero- a perfect ball striker, victorious over personal hardship, and a man who wished to be remembered as a gentleman first. The legacy of his character ensures that he will be forever eulogized in a Hogan way. With understatement."

Raymond Burkhead of Lou., Ky. writes:
"Ben Hogan is the greatest golfer pound for pound that has ever touched a golf club. His ball placement to this day is the best. The terrible auto accident affected his nerves later but what a golfer--- Tiger is next and he hasn't got started--watch out."

...and then adds, "I admire what Norm had to say better. Ben was the best golfer of all time and your words were right on target. Thanks again Norm."

Norm Kropp from Exton, PA, says:
"He was a man of high character, integrity and courage. He was a self-made man and is an outstanding example of the work ethic of a golfer who truly was a scientist...who tested theory after theory after theory...until a swing consistency was found that could stand up under tournament pressure and did not fail. Mr. Hogan is truly the model for all real golfers, amateur and professional, who exemplifies the character, dignity and respect that a man of his calibre possesses. A true "professional's professional". I will always admire him and cherish his memory."

Axel, Sweden writes:
"I like Ben Hogan because of...the five lessons book which has so far taken me three years to read."...and he adds a few weeks later, "...every word of five lessons is important."

A visitor writes:
"His concentration was so fierce and intense...Nicklaus was a great winner but Hogan was a great golfer. No one compares to "The Hawk"."
