"I just want to write to the television people. I am a big fan of Retief and while watching some tournaments I was disappointed at how little he was shown. Although he was near the top and doing well, he wasn't shown. However, Tiger, who wasn't doing well, was shown all the time. He wasn't even near the top. I think you guys need to re-evaluate your priorities." (May 16, 2006)

A visitor writes:
"Ever since the 2005 US Open I have been a huge fan of Retief. First of all, I think he is gorgeous, second of all he plays a heck of a game. Third, he has such great composure. Keep it up Retief, I'm watching you!" (May 9, 2006)

Sead says:
"I live in Indonesia and I don't even play golf, yet my favorite sportsman has always been Retief. Watching him play is watching sport in its purest grace, his beautiful swing, his unbelievable composure, everything. I know there are media folks who deliberately overlook him, or even make cruel jokes about him (that they never do to any other player!), it only makes me admire him more. I wish Retief an even more glorious year in 2006, he deserves it." (April 11, 2006)

COMMENTS FROM 2005:

Barbara M. from Albany NY writes:
"I have never been a golf fan but ever since I have been watching Retief Goosen I am a big fan. It is a pleasure to watch someone who is not only a great player but watching him makes you want to know him as he seems so nice yet not all about himself and he enjoys what he does. I am just sorry we don't get to see him more on TV. I think sometimes the media fails to give credit to him when due. Keep up your great game Retief.  You do have fans routing for you."

Haiduc says:
"Without a doubt, Retief is in my heart for the golf he plays! All media mice and rats have no class around Retief because he is too big for them to mentally apprehend. The other day I was driving and listened to the radio comments made by some ESPN idiot about Retief, and I was stunned.

The wave idiot acknowledged some of Retief's qualities but said that he wouldn't put him in one of his shows because... Retief is not a media kind of guy, he doesn't make much impression. Are you kidding me? The guy is here on this Earth to play golf and not some little tricks like the Spice Girls that you media people like to attach to a commercial interruption!

Today I was watching the NBC broadcast of the US Open and when Retief had the bad spell on the back nine, the commentator from NBC were almost cheering (between lines) that he will miss even more. I couldn't believe their cunning attitude! What's wrong with him? He didn't do anything wrong to make Phil Mickelson shoot seven over par!

Boy, I hope Tiger will have a good day tomorrow and somehow catch up with Retief. If there is gonna be a playoff between these guys, as a Tiger fan I'll have my heart torn apart, but on a second thought, if Retief wins I will be very happy because in this 2005 US Open so far, Retief was the tiger!

I've been struck by lightning too (when I was eighteen) but my golf sucks, so if some media idiot says again that Retief plays good golf because he was struck by lightning, I'm here (and not many people are left alive after such a happening) to prove that there is no connection between the two.

All the best for Retief!"

Ann from Canada writes:
"Wishing Retief Goosen the best of luck for the 2005 US Open. He is my favorite golfer. Keep up the good work Retief."

ET2 JC, ACU-5, Camp Pendelton says:
"Retief, ICE....Man. You will always be our TOPGUN on and off the golf course. Good Luck... "

A very big Goosen fan in Thailand writes:
"It's a pity that I couldn't catch a glimpse of you when you played the SKINs game in Phuket,Thailand in April. Had hoped to see you in Bangkok but your activities in Thailand seemed to be kept secret.

I wish you very good luck this year. At least one of the Grand Slams should be yours. Keep on going Retief. You are so special."

"Doc" Morton, Broken Arrow says:
"Retief Goosen is the quintessential world class golfer. I am a tournament disc golf player, and his conduct on the golf course has inspired me to change my behavior when I play. His influence on me has been a positive one. Thank you Retief."

A visitor writes:
"What a star; you would never think that he used to be so bad tempered on a golf course as he is such a gentleman to watch and a true professional. Ii have always enjoyed golf but even more now and when I play I imagine what Retief would do in this situation. He is also very sexy - what it must be to look that good but be the best golfer to love ya."

COMMENTS FROM 2004:

S.Williams from England says:
"He is the most talented golfer, ever so calm (even though he never used to be). He is so gorgeous - I've never seen such a sexy bloke and one who's an excellent golfer too. I am so proud of him and I will follow and love him forever. Come on the goose."

Michael from Denmark writes:
"You will for sure get 11 on my 1-10 cool golfer scoring card, cause you are just ice-man out on the cource. When will we see you back in action? Hopefully at the BMW International in Munchen."

P. Susanna from Bangkok says:
"Hi Retief. I am your big fan from Bangkok, Thailand where only a few golfers really know you. I am a golfer who rarely watch the tournaments on TV but have broken my own rule by following your work at the US Open , followed by Smurfit Ireland last weekend. I had hoped you would have competed at the Johnnie Walker early this year (the organizer expected your participation though). I really enjoyed watching your cool games, the hidden nerve and the final smile on your face when the last approach on the 72th hole was well negotiated. Hope you decide to play in Asia again soon and I will certainly try to follow and support your game. Good luck at the British Open. Beat all the guys there. Don't you have your own website?"

Karen from New Jersey writes:
"Hello Retief, good job at the U.S. Open, and congratulations on your win. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed watching a golf tournament. You may know this joke, I hope it is funny, I just heard it today and I'm not sure I understand it...but here goes - when you're on the golf course and there's lightning, you should take your 2 iron and hold it up because not even God can hit a 2 iron. Best wishes for many more years of personal and professional success."

Marina says:
"Well done Retief, you did it again. Our South Africans are only one of a kind! South Africa says "thank you", you make us very proud. Keep up the good work, we are watching."

Gail M. from Pretoria writes:
"Wow - what nailbiting stuff it was last night, and well worth waiting up for too! Just after 1am, here in Pretoria (SA), we witnessed Retief's second US Open win. Well done Retief, you played like a star and we are all SUPER PROUD of you."

Mienie de Kock says:
"I am a South African studying in America at Kent State University, Ohio. I watched the US Open today, with other Americans. It was such a treat to watch Goosen walk away with the trophy. He was so humble and charismatic. Everybody congratulated me and I taught them how to pronounce his last name (in Afrikaans).

Congratulations, Retief and keep up the good work! It was really entertaining and you also motivated me to try to be the best."

Mark Howard of South Africa writes:
"With just 2 holes left to play, and a lead of 2 shots, I've an ever so strong feeling that Retief is going to pocket the 2004 US Open! Way to go boet, you deserve every bit of it!"

Hagi P. Gun from the WB says:
"The Goose needs to let loose. This guy has the best swing maybe I've ever seen. Watching this guy hit range balls is a dream come true. Every angle you are supposed to make during the golf swing, Retief performs perfectly. He seems like he must be 6'2'' by the pure stature and power of the man. Well built with broad shoulders, yet merely 6'0. This guy can roll the rock with the best of them as well. When he's hot he's as good as it gets. I just wish he would stay out of his own way. Retief has the skills of any player and then some, but just mentally lacks that killer instinct. Still the best and the greatest genleman on the course. Go Goose I'm rootin for ya!"

Hein Grobler from Kruger National Park, South Africa writes:
"Retief, go and win the Masters!!! He's doing very well, and is like good old South African wine, only gets better by the day. Kick ass this year Retief, skopgat!"

COMMENTS FROM EARLIER:

Dave from Yorkshire simply says:
"He is the world's no.1 golfer."

Jeannie from New Mexico writes:
"The first golf tournament I REALLY watched was the 2001 US Open. Goosen was winning. I liked the relaxed way he played, and the serenity of the game (as opposed to Football or Hockey). Since Goosen was the first player I intensely watched, he became my favorite and I follow his play each week when I can. Today he won the BellSouth Classic in that same relaxed, gentlemanly way."

A visitor writes after the 2002 US Masters:
"Retief gave a gustsy comeback performance for a second at the Masters after every single media person said he would fold. A true gentleman to the game, who is true to his game. What would the media have said if he would have won?! That would have been beautiful!!! Next year!"

Kathy Arscott, always a Capetonian, in Vancouver tells us:
"I LOVE LOVE my fellow countryman Retief and watch every game that is televised here in Canada. His kindness in defeat and happiness in success, his beautiful unassuming and charming manner are qualities that are very admirable. Please Retief retain that lovely South African accent and SA heritage. Don't allow the media "digs" to disturb your stoic nature. Remember your fans LOVE you and stand by you all the way! Good Luck for 2002 and onwards!"

Kathy adds later:
"He is such an enigma! LOVE him to bits - so calm, very handsome and rich - watch every game he and Ernie are in!"
