COMMENTS FROM 2005:
Eric Jonsson, Dallas,
OR says:
"I have been blessed to watch and play with Bob and his family - a wonderful day of golf
- who gave my 12yr old son the time of his life that day. I wish more people could see how big his heart is and what an
influence he made on both of us; where are those stories on the golf
channel?"
COMMENTS FROM 2004:
Dave and Marti
from Palm Springs write:
"Dave followed Bob at the Oregon Open at the Willamette Valley CC in 1976 and again in the
Bob Hope at Bermuda Dunes CC in 1983. We've been ardent fans since those early days and think rooting for
Bob has helped--duh!"
BigBob from California
says:
"I've noticed for the past 2-3 years Bob gets NO coverage on the TV golf shows. If he happens to be in the top 3 or so they will cover him a bit. Instead they will cover Fuzzy--Tom Kite--or Tom Watson regardless of their position in the tournament. I'm wondering what he has done to achieve this "cold shoulder" on the tube?? I think it's remarkable what he's accomplished on the senior tour and the few interviews I've seen he's conducted himself admirably.
I've met him and he's the kind of man I'd like for a neighbor---can't say that about a few of the other seniors!"
COMMENTS FROM 2003:
Jim Miller from Toronto,
Canada tells us:
"I was drawn to play with Bob during the Monday Pro-Am at the Bell Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in 1994. I had pre-arranged with the tournament to propose marriage to my
girlfriend (now my wife and mother of my son) at the par-3 15th hole (our favourite hole to spectate at).
Bob was an extremely friendly gentleman (he has a great reputation for being an enjoyable Pro-Am partner). As a result, my wife and I have been great supporters of his during his last few years on the regular Tour, and have revelled in his successes on the Senior Tour."
Mike Garris
writes:
"I saw him hit a shot on TV at one of the majors and it was so beautiful to watch it curve right at the pin.
I decided he would be my favorite. I am having a lot of problems getting in touch with him though."
Thanks for writing in Jim and Mike, and if you're reading this Mr. Gilder, and would like to get in touch with Mike, drop us a note.
