COMMENTS FROM 2005:

ccsmith from Spook Rock writes:
"I had the pleasure of knowing the whole Ford family for a few formulative years in New York. They were (are?) wonderful people and taught me to love the game of golf. Of course, I shot a 136 last time I played in Florida. And I still love the game."

A visitor notes:
"Doug Ford jr. has just moved to Florida. I'll let you know if he's any good at golf he was only practicing today."

COMMENTS FROM 2004:

Frank P. from Westchester writes:
"It was the summer of 1966 when I met Mr. Ford and his two sons (Doug jr.and Mike). They were shaging balls for their dad. He was playing out of Vernon Hills C.C. in Eastchester, N.Y. .I was walking by and stopped. I stayed until dark just to see him hit ball after ball on a rope the kid's didn't move. After that he helped me get my first pro job. Over the years we see each other and talk about those years; what a great person he is."

COMMENTS FROM 2003:

Andy from Michigan tells us:
"I was a 16 year old boy assigned to Doug Ford as his caddie. I believe it was in the summer of 1964 at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was my window on how the world of professional golf can be very unforgiving. I recalled clearly in my mind Mr. Ford's wife standing on the fairway watching intensely her husband. I realized at that moment that golf is a very tenuous profession as a source of finanical security. Yet Mr. Ford has, apparently, persevered over the years and continued to be a professional golfer. A final note, he was very nice to me and overlooked my poor caddie skills. I became a public school teacher. Obviously, I learnt  not to be a risk taker."

Adrian says:
"I had a book on Wedge play written by Doug Ford and it was one of the best instructional books I've read. I think he was (and is) a great player."

COMMENTS FROM 2002:

John Edward Moore from Trumansburg, NY writes:
"He is the first golfer I ever watched on TV when I was a kid. He was a star back then. He'll be 80 in August. I still think he's great. He was and remains inspirational."
