Diane Sams says:
"I went to School with Rich in Berlin Germany. He was a great guy then and I'm sure he is a great dad and husband now. All my best Rich. Remember me? " (Nov, 2006)
COMMENTS FROM 2005:
JCQ New Jersey writes:
"The Beemer was awesome at the Bell South -- I've been following him since his last
win -- he is on his way -- Rick Smith is the key."
Eric Roche says:
"I knew Rich in high school, Berlin American High in Germany. Back in 88 he was a skinny skater kid that had fun in and out of the tee box. Never in my wildest dreams did I think to see him beat the "Woodinator." Way to go Rich."
COMMENTS FROM 2004:
Horris from Boston writes:
"I just want to say that I think the tour needs more personalities like Beemer. I mean, the guy, let's be honest, knows how to party -- if you don't believe me, read 'Bud, Sweat and Tees' -- it is well documented. I think this carries over a bit into his game, he doesn't really care if he wins as long as he has a good time, and a good time the Beemer does have. I think this explains all his hot starts and then
occasional meltdowns in the weekend rounds. Like Kevie stated previously, he will always have Hazeltine '02 so why fret on the small stuff, go out and hit a few balls, but have a good time. I think this is why Beem sells so well, he embodies the person that most people want to be -- doesn't worry about a thing, knows how to party, and can hit a few good balls."
Korey from Halifax says:
"Well Rich, you really tanked it on Sunday. I had a few $$$ riding on you, and after Thursday, you were sitting pretty. Thats alright though man, that Scottish weather's rough man. The PGA is really yer cup o tea anyhow. I'll be expecting big things from you, I know you'll sell hard in August."
Kevie from Shinnecock writes:
"After the second round of this year's U.S. Open I was hanging out at one of our local "hole-in-the-wall" pubs and reflecting on a day of great golf. Two guys stepped up to the bar, and ordered some drinks. Nobody seemed to know who they were, but I did. It was Rich Beem and Scott Verplank.
They just stopped in to hang out before Rich had to leave town the next morning. I introduced myself and told them I was a huge fan of both of them. They were very receptive, and asked me to sit down for a beer. Anyway, Verplank took off early cuz he was playing the next day, but Beemer (who missed the cut) said he was gonna have a few more since his flight didn't leave 'til the afternoon.
I can't really mention some of the hijinx that we got into later that night, but I will leave you with this. Rich Beem is a great guy. He didn't care that he missed the cut at the Open. It just rolled off his back. He is all about having a good time...all the time. And hey, he'll always have Hazeltine in '02, right? Great guy. Best night of my life."
Dug From Canada says:
"Hey Beemer, nice to hear you were in the pub again before the tournament. I am one of your biggest fans but I wish you would get your head out of your butt and take your JOB Serious!!!! You have more talent then you'll ever use, just wish you would use some of it. You're a much better player than you are showing your fans."
Cappy from S. Carolina writes:
"Rich is an absolute standup guy. Before the final round at Hazeltine in '02, Beemer and myself had a funny exchange. He was on the practice green warming up and dropped a tee from behind his ear on the ground. He picked it up and said, "Anybody fancy a tee?" in a funny English accent. I laughed outloud and we made eye contact and he tossed me the tee. He then was nice enough to sign a scrap of paper I could attach to the tee as a memento. All this before the most important round of his life. What a guy!"
Grant Bradford, Troon says:
"Rich visited my pub before the Open Championship yesterday and has given us free tickets for every day as well as buying us numerous drinks. The guy is extremely nice and probably only a few guys on tour would do that!!!"
Jim from Queensbury writes:
"Rich, like many of your fans I am disappointed that you no longer seem to be able to close the deal. You still have the ability to shoot some low rounds but then you have weekend disasters. If you do not have a sports psychologist, I suggest one. If you do have one, fire him."
Meg from N.Y. says:
"You are the hottest golfer on tour."
George Humphrey from Switzerland writes:
"Because of some of my clients passing me videotapes with professional content, I decided to install a recorder at the office. However the first thing I in fact did was to programme a recording for a 2 hours of golf on a TV channel. It was the International. Some days later I watched the video and did not find anything special until I saw a guy with a red cap, who the commentator did not present, hitting a ball from the fairway. I told myself Hey ! let's watch that one again. After viewing the sequence several times including with the slow motion, I told mysef
'This guy is doing exactly what I am trying to do for 15 years'.
Then I watched the rest of the video with increasing pleasure and was delighted of the final result as if I was
directly concerned.
Because Rich Beem has no physical originality and no swing specials, Rich Beem has proved to millions of average golfers what can be done with a body like the one they have.
Simply watching the video again and again helped me to slightly improve my swing but it considerably helped me to get much more confidence in what I (he) can do and this had an extremely beneficial influence on my scores.
So, in the name of those millions of anonymous average golfers who look so much closer to you than to Els or Woods: Thank you Rich Beem.
So Mr. Beem, when you play, please be aware that there are millions of silent wills aiming at you driving the fairway, hitting the green and sinking the putt, because those people have the impression that, in a certain manner because they look like you, they watch themselves doing it, and that's a great feeling."
