Sherry in Houston (a Trinidadian) says:
"Congrats.. But u need to show more love for ya country.. Trinidad.. We all know where Canada is .. Even though we Trini's like to be noticed. Don't forget yr roots." (April 17th, 2006)

Brian C. from Calgary writes:
"What an awesome round of golf Stephen. This was one of the most gratifying Sunday afternoons, as both a huge fan of the game and a Calgarian, that I've ever experienced!! Congratulations and I hope you and your family have a great time in Orlando. You have done Calgary very proud." (March 2006, on the day Ames won THE PLAYERS Championship)

Christine W from Trinidad says:
"Congrats on all your accomplishments. I am so proud of you. I follow you all the time and root for you excitedly. I am a Trinidadian living in the US and I am your biggest fan. As the Trinis say 'Big up Massive!' and all the best in the future." (March 2006)

COMMENTS FROM 2005 AND EARLIER:

Derek from Victoria BC writes:
"Congratulations on the first round at the PGA championship. You've come a long ways since I caddied for you at Gorge Vale GC at The Victoria Payless Open. Good Luck."

Weemalcy of Bedonwell says:
"Now I know that Stephen is Trinidadian so how come the Canadian thing? Some times, years ago I cabbed his brother Roger (a big wheel in the music industry)and he was definitely from Trinidad (or maybe Tobago). Why the switch?" (Editor's note: My recollection is that he had an awful lot of touble with getting the right papers, permission and documents to play and "work" in the USA, so had to switch nationalities. But perhaps someone can confirm this?)

Paul Wells, St. Jacobs, Ontario writes:
"Stephen, I am proud to say that I leaned about your great golf skills from your late uncle Jim Knox. I worked with him until he passed away, but he was always watching to see how you were doing and never missed an oportunity to tell us how you were making out. I now have my wife and family watching to see how you're doing as well, and we are sure happy to see you doing so well. I know your cousins are proud, and I hope that you have a long and enjoyable life on tour."

Barry from Grimsby, Ontario says:
"I can't believe he is blaming his brother for his showing at the British Open. If he believes it, keep it Private."

Bill Barry, Ireland writes:
"For anybody betting on the British Open next week, Stephen Ames at 40/1 is the value bet - he played well last time in Troon in 1997 and he's now in even better form on the back of his US PGA Tour win."

Les from Diego Martin, Trinidad says:
"Congrats on your tremendous win at the Western Open Stephen. ...Don't forget yuh roots!....Trini to de Bone!! :-)"

Steven Ames from Perrysburg, Ohio writes:
"Stephen, congratulations on your victory...I have been following you since the European Tour and knew you had it in you to win on the PGA Tour...may this be the first of many to come"

A Calgary fan says:
"In Calgary, we are very proud of our new Canadian and Western Open Winner, Stephen Ames. He seems to have taken over where Mike Weir left off and we are hoping the in-form golfer can compete for a Major this year. With his recent consistency on the Tour, it was only a matter of time until he won - this is no surprise to us in Calgary. The lack of attention and muted praise for Stephen from U.S. broadcasters was, however, unexpected. Can this be anything to do with some comments he made regarding Tiger, early in his Tour career, or simply because he is the sixth successive non-American to win on the PGA Tour? Keep up the good work, Stephen!"

Trinidadian / Canadian writes:
"Stephen Congratulations on your latest victory at Cog Hill...and all your top tens for 2004 .. Good Luck at the British Open.

I have been a fan of yours for a long time and I follow you hole by hole every time you are playing."
